Research Associate (f/m/d) as Cloud Architect at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences at the Institute of Political Science

Research assistant at the Faculty of State and Social Sciences at the Institute of Political Science (Dailed to the E13 TVöD Group) from now on and until 31. December 2026 in full or part-time search. The workplace is part of a larger interdisciplinary research project, which is located at the Institute of Political Science at the University of the Bundeswehr Munich (Prof. Dr. Jasmin Riedl). The project builds a Data Lab to give scientists the opportunity to analyze both historical data and real-time data from social media (such as X, YouTube, TikTok). The Data Lab is an infrastructure for retrieving, storing and processing data that allows, among other things, to analyze elections, campaigns and (des) information campaigns, but also to answer research questions from social research in general. We are currently looking for a Cloud Architect for the project. They design and implement distributed infrastructures and application environments based on their own on-premises Kubernetes cluster for real-time processing of social media data. These include reliable and scalable HW and SW infrastructures, consisting of clusters, storage and computing accelerators.

Conception and implementation of microservice infrastructures and applications Operation and further development of existing storage and computing infrastructure and data structures and databases Development of alternative solutions to retrieve social media under the Digital Services Act Development of the no-code approaches of the Data Lab and support in the development of a visual end-user interface to formulate the analysis pipeline Support and further development of project-based services Collection, processing and evaluation of data to support social science analyses

A scientific university degree (master, diploma or similar) completed with at least the grade “good” in the field of computer science, information technology, business informatics or in a comparable degree course Experience and knowledge with container technologies (e.g. Kubernetes or Docker), in the creation of complex SQL-based database queries and the management of Linux distributions, detected by a professional activity of usually not less than two years Remarkable: Experiences with HPC, DevOps/MLOps practices and software development and programming (e.g. Python) German language skills (C2) and foreign language knowledge in English with a level of at least B2 of the Common European Framework for Languages What do we expect?
