Number: MER0003N6N The Center for Battery Development is responsible for the development of HV batteries for electric vehicles in Mercedes-Benz AG. This includes the support of suppliers for the development of lithium-ion cells and cell modules of the future. In addition to supplier support, the department is responsible for the safety of lithium-ion cells in electric vehicles across the group. In this context, we work in an interdisciplinary manner with various specialist areas such as functional safety or the battery system in order to jointly shape a sustainable and at the same time secure electromobility of the future. To further develop the current security strategy of lithium-ion cells, our team is looking for an motivated doctoral studentin. In this role, you take an important role in which the following focuses of work await you: Compilation of a detailed literature study on aging mechanisms and their influence on characteristic parameters of the safety of lithium-ion cells Analysis of already carried out safety tests for the development of a well-founded DoE for the determination of essential influencing factors on safety behavior Identification of critical ageing thresholds and procedures with regard to cell safety taking into account relevant operating parameters Planning, implementation and analysis of realistic ageing procedures and subsequent cell safety tests Optimization of universal support points in the aging process for defining standardized reference points for safety tests Adjustment requirement is the support of the doctoral project by a university lecturer. The selection of a corresponding person is the responsibility of the doctoral student.
