At the Landesanstalt für Umwelt Baden-Württemberg in Karlsruhe, Department “Technical Environmental Protection” is a place in the higher service with a Master (w/m/d) Engineering, natural sciences or comparable field of waste management in the ‘circular economy, chemical safety’ unit at the earliest possible time, fixed by 31.12.2027. The LUBW is the competence centre of Baden-Württemberg in matters of environmental and nature protection, technical work protection, radiation protection and product safety. We advise politics and administration in Baden-Württemberg in a variety of technical topics. The ''Circular Economy, Chemical Safety'' unit supports and advises the environmental administration in Baden-Württemberg in the context of a circular economy, product responsibility and chemicals law. It is responsible for projects in the fields of mineral waste, circular construction, product responsibility, biowaste, material and environmental assessment of waste, secondary raw materials and chemicals. It works closely with external specialist bodies, associations, research and other areas of the LUBW – since summer 2025 in the newly built LUBW campus. In order to achieve the goal of comprehensive collection, optimization of the quality and high-quality recovery of biowaste in Baden-Württemberg, LUBW established the Biowaste Competence Centre in the “Corporate Management, Chemical Safety” Unit.

In order to implement and further develop the nationwide biowaste strategy, which includes the optimization of the efficient collection, recovery and use of biowaste, including the marketing of biogas, high-quality composts and fermentation products, the Biowaste Competence Centre shall have the following tasks: Consultation of municipal waste management bodies and evaluation in the selection of suitable treatment technologies for biowaste, including a total ecology assessment Technical advice of the Environmental Administration (Environment Ministry, Government Presidies, City and Landkreises) on issues relating to biowaste utilization and the separate collection of biowaste and the related regulations on waste, immission protection and fertilizer law and adjacent legal areas Conception, organisation and implementation of specialist events for biowaste recycling and contributions to information and public relations Proactive networking of actors and stakeholders of different stakeholders Technical support of relevant research and development projects as well as technical assistance of technical planning processes and appropriate approval procedures for biowaste treatment plants Follow up current developments in biowaste recycling and participation to create acceptance for the implementation of innovative concepts for the high-quality recycling of biowaste

successfully completed studies (diploma/master degree course or comparable) in the fields of environmental, process engineering or comparable engineering or natural science studies with well-founded knowledge in waste management. appropriate master's degrees not acquired at a university must be accredited at the time of completion for access to the higher service; the applicant or the applicant shall provide proof of this.
