Research Assistant - Technologies for Future Energy Conversion Systems (m/f/d)

Branch: Humanities Branch: Humanities

Supplier: Chair and Institute of Jet Drives and Turbomachines RWTH Aachen University's Institute for Jet Drives and Turbo Machines (IST) is working on turbomachines – a key technology for numerous industrial processes, energy storage systems and the climate-neutral mobile energy conversion of tomorrow. Our research combines scientific excellence with concrete industrial relevance and creates optimal conditions for your successful entry into a career in industry or science. In close cooperation with leading industrial partners such as MAN Energy Solutions as well as the companies of the Forschungsvereinigung Brennkraftmaschinen (FVV e. V.) we develop the technological and scientific foundations for sustainable energy transformation – with the aim of climate neutrality and emission-free systems. Our high-performance research infrastructure – including several large-scale test stands, wind tunnels and one of our own high-performance computing clusters – enables us to investigate the latest concepts experimentally and numerically at the highest level. We offer challenging questions, innovative technologies and the opportunity to actively participate in the energy transition. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. There is a wide range of training and the possibility of obtaining a job ticket for employees and civil servants. .

In the exciting field of modern energy wall systems, we offer you the opportunity to actively participate in a variety of future-oriented research projects. Depending on your interests and qualifications, you can focus either on experimental work or numerical simulations – or combine both. In the field of power-to-gas, a key technology for the energy system of the future, you are working on the further development of radial compressors for efficient hydrogen compression. Due to the fluctuating supply of renewable energy, these must be adapted for the flexible operation. Their tasks include CFD simulations for the design and optimization and/or experimental testing of highly instrumentated test benches. In the field of mobile energy wall systems, you focus on the optimization of radial compressors for turbocharged piston engines and for hydrogen-powered fuel cell systems. The aim is to increase efficiency and operational safety in the use of greenhouse gas-neutral synthetic fuels or green hydrogen. In this field, you can also find experimental and numerical activities, depending on the project focus. It is intended that you transfer your research results to a doctorate.

Your profile Are you excited about new technologies and want to contribute to the more sustainable energy wall systems of the future? Then you are right with us! A prerequisite for the recruitment is a completed university degree (master or comparable) in the field of mechanical engineering or a comparable engineering discipline. Required qualifications are: Good to very good studies knowledge of the aerodynamics of turbomachines Good or very good knowledge of German and English in word and writing

The employment is in the employment relationship. The place shall be occupied at the next possible time and shall be limited to 4 years. It is a full-time job. There is a doctoral opportunity. The grouping depends on the TV-L. The place is rated with EG 13 TV-L. The job description is aimed at all sexes. We want to promote the careers of women at RWTH Aachen University and are therefore looking forward to applicants. Women are preferably taken into account in the case of equal suitability, competence and professional performance, provided You are underrepresented in the organisational unit and, if not in the person of a competitor, outweigh the reasons.
