We are a technical-scientific federal authority in the Department of Transport (BMV). Our core task is to advise the Federal Waterways and Maritime Administration (WSV) on all transport water engineering issues, in particular the assessment of transport water systems and facilities in the waterway infrastructure. With our work, we contribute significantly to ensuring that the waterways in Germany meet the growing transport, technical and ecological requirements. The Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau is part of a 357,582 km2 career network consisting of over 40 authorities with around 24,000 employees. Germany has one of Europe's largest and most efficient water infrastructure networks. In order to ensure safe and sustainable use of waterways in the future, it is important to adapt existing plants to changing climatic conditions and modern requirements. There is a particular need for research in rare, but potentially difficult, incidents and their quantitative risk assessment. In this way, a failure of a weir closure can have far-reaching consequences, especially in floods. Within the framework of the four-year research project “Model-based investigation: Simulation of the effects of the failure of a warehousing system as well as the development of corresponding reaction strategies” at the Bundesanstalt für Wasserbau – embedded in the research network of the Federal Ministry for Transport (BMV), disturbance scenarios are to be analyzed model-assisted and response strategies developed in practice. The aim is to develop a scientifically sound emergency concept and an action aid for the Federal Waterways and Maritime Administration. We need your support for these tasks. In detail, these are: Analysis of disturbances in convolutions on state-controlled federal waterways – possible scenarios, risks and risk assessment Clustering of the dynamics and their evaluation, development of case studies, e.g. on generic dynamics as a simulation basis Planning and implementation of numerical simulations (e.g. 2D/3D hydrodynamic) and, if necessary, Laboratory tests Development of technical and organisational action strategies for emergency (e.g. replacement measures, use of locks, emergency locks) Conception of an action aid for various types of stowage Presentation and documentation of the results in interim and final reports as well as at specialist meetings

You should bring this with you: Graduate degree in one of the above disciplines This distinguishes you: Funded knowledge of the hydraulics of water structures Enthusiasm for solving technical problems and for passing on the findings Experience in modelling flow processes (e.g. with OpenFOAM, Flow3D, TELEMAC, Hydro_AS-2D or laboratory models) Interest in developing practical emergency and crisis concepts in infrastructure Willingness to interdisciplinary cooperation with experts from water construction, crisis protection and administration Joy in the preparation and communication of complex technical content Very good oral and written expressability in German (level C2) Good knowledge of English (at least CEFR B2) Social and communicative competence with interest in work in the team and the willingness to interdisciplinary exchange

Aim: Together, something in interdisciplinary projects brings about national and international progress in digitalization, infrastructure, environment and mobility. Scientific qualification: Doctoral projects in cooperation with a university are supported, possibility to publish scientific findings in scientific papers and participation in international scientific exchanges. Reliability:Determined employment relationship according to the regulations of the TVöD Bund in conjunction with § 2 paragraph 1 WissZeitVG. 39 hours per week in full-time (running time). 30 days of leave and work free on 24.12. and 31.12. Grouping for employees subject to confirmation of the tariff assessment in Group 13 of the TVED. Responsibility for persons in the civil service only in the context of a dismissal and subject to confirmation of the statutory assessment until the grade A 13 of the Federal Order of Appeal (BBesO).

Work-Life-Balance: Individual working hours and models for independent work allow a high degree of flexibility and self-responsibility. We care about the compatibility of private and professional life. Professionality: A good working atmosphere begins with the working environment – from modern equipment and digital infrastructure to open communication culture in a dedicated team. Network: National and international exchange with other scientists to expand your professional network. Perspectives: Interesting training and development opportunities within working hours. Retention: Operational health management, diverse social benefits and a kita with 25 seats on the premises. Benefits: Grant to the Germany Ticket Job, cooperation with gyms, possibility of membership in the social work with offers for holidays, events and events, gastronomy and products. Special notes: The posts are generally suitable for occupation with parttime workers. Applications for women are expressly requested. We welcome the application of all genders. Disabled people are preferably set with the same professional suitability. Only a minimum of physical fitness is required. We welcome the application of people of all nationalities.
