Supplier: Chair and Institute of Water Engineering and Water Management The RWTH Aachen University Institute for Water Engineering and Water Management is active in many national and international research projects - often with partners from other disciplines. Our research focuses on groundwater, high and low water, structural and natural water construction, coastal and aesthetic research, water morphology and sediment transport as well as hydropower. In addition to these topics, we are constantly working on exciting new research projects that emerge from current issues. Our institute's experimental hall with over 2,000 square meters of space offers optimal possibilities to develop and operate models for projects on a large scale. A further established method is the hydro-numeric simulation using any desired software packages in the license and opensource range to investigate flow phenomena on different scales. We are looking for a personality that takes over the management of our IT department with commitment and motivation at the next time. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. As the head of the IT department, You assume the overall responsibility for the strategic planning, ongoing operation and continuous development of the IT infrastructure as well as the IT services of our institute. In this role, you guide the IT staff professionally, coordinate the overall strategic orientation of IT and actively contribute to their implementation. At the same time, ensure the reliable availability of our IT systems and take into account the specific needs of all employees. You plan and conduct both strategic and operational measures to ensure IT security and develop, implement and monitor backup and archiving processes to protect the Institute's data base. In addition, you will develop software for our water engineering experiments in close coordination with the scientific staff and the Messtechnik department. You are also responsible for the training of mathematical-technical software developers and, if necessary, specialist informatics for system integration. In this position you report directly to the Institute Management.

You have a completed Bachelor degree in IT, ideally combined with a completed vocational training as a mathematical/technical/software developer or a comparable qualification. In addition, you have several years of experience – at least two years – in IT operations or in a leading function, preferably at a research institution or university. Your strong team skills as well as your strong communicative skills in word and writing (German at least at level C1) complete your profile. You show an open ear for employees' IT concerns, possess enforcement and decision-making strength and act responsibly with regard to data protection and IT compliance. Knowledge of the internal RWTH organization is also desirable.

The employment is in the employment relationship. The place shall be occupied at the next possible time and shall be permanent. It is a full-time job.
