Senior Engineer Geographic Information Systems (m/w/d)

Senior Engineer Geoinformationssysteme from 01.07.2025 and in full time preferred in Bonn, alternatively nationwide at one of our BWI locations. In the Customer Solution Unit “GeoInfo, Analytics & Simulation” (CS GIAS), we provide the Bundeswehr with the necessary IT for the collection, georeference, analysis, compilation and use of data so that it can reach an information dominance and a superior decision speed. The GIAS GeoInfo division builds a new engineer team for the operation of geoinformation systems (GIS, based on ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise) and weather data processing systems (METOC). The focus is on the extensive and ascendingly frequented systems of the Geoinformation Service of the Bundeswehr (GeoInfoDBw), to which high demands are made daily on geo and weather products to be produced and their provision. The newly created team will support the migrations to the BWI and will operate and develop the systems under the requirements of the GeoInfoDBw. The team will be responsible for providing, operating and developing GeoInfo systems as well as standardizing and automating procedures and tools.

Planning, installation, operation and monitoring of complex GIS systems (ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise) and METOC systems, including associated database environments Responsible for the further development of the services due to the rapidly developing requirements of the GeoInfoDBw to achieve high usage and customer acceptance Ensuring the implementation of operational tasks and implementing operational stabilisation and optimisation activities Quality-assured takeover of prepared solutions into production in close coordination with the units concerned Implementation of IT security requirements, data protection and operation for the services responsible Implementation of change requests, e.g. as part of updates, upgrades and release changes Optimization of processes for the operation of GIS and METOC-based processes and administration processes with regard to information security, standardization and automation

Successfully completed subject-related university studies or vocational training in IT (e.g.

About 4 years of relevant professional experience in the operation of extensive IT systems and experience in the participation in more complex IT projects

Deep knowledge of GIS systems (ESRI ArcGIS Enterprise) and METOC systems including associated database environments

Experience in the automation of administrative activities of large GIS landscapes (e.g. with ArcPy) desirable

Practical experience in implementing, controlling and operating and supporting large system landscapes at technical level (Linux, AIX, Windows, script programming)

Knowledge of IT Security (BSI Basic Protection, ISO 27001)

Experience in IT Service Management and IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL)

Flowing German knowledge in word and writing and very good English knowledge

Teamable and Open in Dealing with Changes
