Software Engineer – Artificial Intelligence

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft currently operates 76 institutes and research institutions in Germany and is one of the leading organisations for application-oriented research. Around 32 000 employees develop the annual research volume of 3.4 billion euros. The newly founded Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence Duisburg (ZaKI.D) aims to support the regional economy in the transformation in Duisburg and in the adjacent regions with promising AI technologies. The technical focus of the ZaKI.D is the embedded artificial intelligence on resource-restricted devices such as sensors, smart devices or robots. We want to make these safer and smarter, optimize manufacturing processes, increase the quality of products and minimize the ecological footprint.

In order to help companies in the local economy in the introduction of AI, you will conduct a request collection and analysis on site together with other ZaKI.D employees and identify areas of application and potential for AI. They support data acquisition by developing and implementing suitable data acquisition strategies in cooperation with companies, e.g. by recording measurement data directly on a production machine or using camera systems. Then take care of the data processing and analysis. Based on the data situation and taking into account the determined customer needs from the previous conversations, you identify either suitable existing or develop new models for machine learning processes that you train and evaluate. These will then integrate you into the customer's application environment, where they are regularly evaluated and adapted as needed. Together with the ZaKI.D team, you integrate the new methods into the existing frameworks and software libraries and develop them further. As part of publications and network events, you will share the knowledge and experience you have gained.

Master/Uni Diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a comparable degree course focusing on AI, Machine Learning or Data Science Funded know-how in the development and implementation of AI methods and practice with deep learning/machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow/Keras and/or Scikit-Learn Programming skills in Python and/or C/C++ Ideally experience in the application of AI methods in the industrial sector Problem-solving competence and the ability to work independently Excellent oral and written communication skills in very good English and German
