Life is always about becoming... In life it is about going on a journey to become the best version of our future self. As we discover new things, we face challenges, master them and grow beyond us.

Apply to Mercedes-Benz and find the area where you can develop your talents individually. You will be supported by visionary colleagues who share your pioneering spirit. Joining us means becoming part of a global team whose goal is to build the most desirable cars in the world. Together for excellence.

Number: MER0003Z94 In Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of the future. We are already working on vehicles that will secure the technology leadership of Mercedes-Benz in the future. Security is one of the core values of our brand. Therefore, our customers place high expectations for the safety of our vehicles. The RD/XP area is responsible for product safety and product analysis within RD and must therefore ensure that we bring safe products to the market by supporting and consulting all RD areas. Our team is responsible for consulting on security issues, testing product documentation and marketing communication as well as defending product liability cases. As part of your internship, you will gain insight into technical product safety and accident analysis in the automotive environment. A special focus is on the simulation, representation and reconstruction of accident and traffic scenarios with the help of different software tools. Specifically, the following tasks await you: Introducing & Search: You can get an overview of common software solutions for accident reconstruction, traffic simulation and 3D visualization – both commercial tools (e.g. PC‐Crash, Virtual CRASH, HVE, FARO Zone 3D) as well as research-related or research-oriented Open source platforms (e.g. CARLA, SUMO, BeamNG, openPASS)

Methodological analysis & comparison: You analyze the tools for mapping traffic situations and accident sequences, such as vehicle and environment models, driving physics, collision models, driver reactions, automatability and visualization

Definition of comparison scenarios: You design exemplary traffic scenarios that are comparatively investigated

Simulation & Evaluation: You implement selected scenarios in different programs, document the results and work out differences, strengths and boundaries of each tool – e.g. with regard to accuracy, effort and traceability

Documentation & Result preparation: You keep your findings in a structured manner, prepare them in a comprehensible manner and present them in the team. The aim is a well-founded basis of decision, which tool is particularly suitable for what application (e.g. analysis, reconstruction or visualization)

The activity can begin from April 2026.

Studies in a relevant field, e.g. vehicle engineering, traffic engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science or comparable engineering or Natural science

Interest in road safety, accident analysis and technical simulation methods

First experiences with simulation, analysis or modeling tools (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, CAD, 3D tools) desirable

Programming skills (e.g. Python, C++) are a plus, but no requirement

Analytical way of thinking and structured working

Own initiative and willingness to work on new tools and topics

Team skills and joy in cooperation with different disciplines

Secure knowledge of German and English in word and writing

Secure handling of MS‐Office
