The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerator systems for science. The new FAIR plant (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) is currently being built in international cooperation, one of the largest research projects worldwide. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to work in this international environment in a team that is working daily to conduct science at world level. The “Superconducting Magnets & Testing” (SCM) department is looking to strengthen its “Magnet Electrical Systems” group (SCM-MES) Scientific and Technical Employees*in (d/m/w) Applied Physics & Electrical Engineering Reference number: 26.114-6351 as an expert for superconducting FAIR accelerator components and associated protection systems. Within the scope of the project, appropriate facilities are to be conceptualized, validated and in the FAIR main machines SIS100 or Super-FRS. Their expertise in the guidance of complex technical processes and their routined approach to testing, installation and commissioning will significantly contribute to the successful start of the FAIR plant.

Scientific expertise and analysis in the field of superconducting FAIR components and power supplies. Ensure electrical quality assurance and maintenance of the test operation for superconducting FAIR modules. Validation of the FAIR Quench Detection System and technical coordination of implementation and commissioning. Work package responsibility in the areas “SIS100 Quench Detection” and “SIS100 Electrical Systems”. Development of advanced measurement methods for electrical integrity in superconducting components as well as the design of future magnetic protection systems.

Academic degree with a doctorate, ideally in applied physics and electrical engineering or a comparable qualification. Knowledge in the field of superconducting magnetic technology and protection systems for superconducting components. Competence in simulation and calculation of characteristic parameters for magnetic protection and Quench-Event data analysis. Experience in electrical measurement technology, sensor technology, analog/digital signal processing, measurement data acquisition via Ethernet as well as data processing and data synchronization in connected systems. Ideally know-how in the EMC-oriented system construction of electrical systems. Programming skills in Python and C/C++. Routinized handling of MS Windows and Linux operating systems as well as MS Office applications. Very good knowledge of English and German in word and writing. Self-employed, cooperative working style, social skills, sense of responsibility and team spirit.

a varied engineering science challenge in the multidisciplinary environment of an internationally renowned research institution. The place is indefinite. The salary is based on the TVöD (Bund) collective agreement applicable to GSI. GSI promotes women's professional development and welcomes women to feel particularly addressed through this call. In the case of the same qualification and suitability for working at test stands as well as the FAIR construction site, severely disabled persons receive the advantage. .
