The Department of General and Visceral Surgery consists of three clinics: the Clinic for Gastrointestinal and Colonial Surgery under the direction of Dr. Michael Lipp and the Clinic for Liver, Gallenwegs and Pancreas Surgery under the direction of Prof. Dr. Karl Oldhafer, both at the Barmbek site. The third clinic is headed by Prof. Dr. Carolin Tonus and is located at the St. Georg site. The department has one of the largest surgical supply spectra in Germany. In the department, the range of services ranges from active outpatient surgery to complex visceraloncological and multivisceral surgery, including the treatment of peritoneal carcinosis, to specialized operations in the sarcoma center, as well as interventions with intraoperative irradiation. All diseases from the field of visceral surgery are treated with a special focus on tumor surgery. Most of the interventions are performed with the most modern minimally invasive procedures, including laparoscopic and robotic surgery. The department also includes an internationally recognized clinic for liver, bile path and pancreas surgery, which performs a wide range of highly specialized hepatobiliary and pancratic procedures. The Asklepios Clinics Barmbek and St. Georg are an academic part of the Semmelweis University in Budapest and at the same time academic teaching hospitals at the University of Hamburg. Our own clinical research is a matter of heart, explicitly desired and actively supported. There is a complete training authorization for the specialist in visceral surgery, for the additional name special visceral surgery and for the additional name proctology.
