Senior Competition Economist, temporary parental leave also possible in part-time 30 hours/week (all genders) The team, the department: This position is part of the team “Competition & Compliance”, which is embedded in the legal department of METRO AG in Düsseldorf. The team is responsible for all competition matters of the METRO Group. The daily tasks of this team include, in particular, the enforcement of antitrust claims, advice in the field of merger control and daily support in competition law. In this position: You are ‘Competition Economist’ in the team ‘Competition & Compliance’: In this unique function, you are responsible for economic advice in cases of competition law enforcement, merger control applications, public policy issues and other day-to-day consulting tasks in competition law. You are responsible for the collection, processing and internal analysis of data and other evidence for damages. A smooth cooperation with various departments of METRO, such as the “Sourcing” department or the IT department, is essential for this part of the task. You supervise the work of external economic advisers. You support the collection, processing and internal analysis of relevant data and other evidence for feasibility studies and merger control applications from national and international competition authorities. You supervise the work of external economic advisers. You support the METRO's Competition & Compliance Team in advising national companies in competition matters (e.g. in the calculation of market shares). You promote the interests of METRO through your economic assessments of regulatory and competition initiatives in the context of METRO's public policy activities (e.g. contributions to consultations with legislators, market studies, etc.).

We are looking for: a Senior Competition Economist (all genders) or Econometrician (all genders) with at least 3 years of practical experience in competition law, especially in the areas of antitrust and merger control, ideally acquired in a renowned consulting firm; with sound knowledge in STATA/R and/or Python, as the handling of data and econometry is essential for this position; and a self-developed economic perspective to support the positions of the team in competition law and merger control (e.g. in terms of damage theories and empirical market definitions). a Senior Competition Economist (all genders) or Econometrician (all genders), which is able to thoroughly examine external economic analyses and participate as a partner in the search for robust and reliable solutions. a solution-oriented and pragmatic data analyst (all genders) with a pronounced cross-functional thinking and a real interest in the wholesale business of METRO; with good English skills and ideally also German knowledge.
