Our Defence & Security division is an established technical service provider for national and international customers in the analysis, development and protection of protection solutions. At the Lichtenau site at Paderborn, we conduct challenging experimental tests in the field of ballistic protection systems. In this position, you are actively working in the team to carry out fire tests on different protective structures, from new materials and prototypes to complete protected vehicles or infrastructure.

Activity

• implementation of fire tests on protective structures (e.g. materials, components and complete protected vehicles)
• Operation and supervision of the firing system and the associated measuring technology, carrying out tests according to predetermined national and international test guidelines
• Conversion of predetermined test parameters (e.g. impact speed, shot distance, hit position) in ongoing experimental operation
• Collection and documentation of measurement data (e.g. speed, bullet behavior, penetration and damage images)
• Technical assessment of the impact of individual bullet results, support in the preparation of test reports and technical reports
• Technical support of customers during the trial on site
• Participation in the maintenance, repair and fault analysis of the firing system and measuring technology, support in the further development and optimization of the experimental equipment and processes

Preconditions

• Completed technical training ideally with further training to the technician, master or comparable qualification (e.g. mechanical engineering, materials engineering, mechatronics) or comparable
• Ideally practical experience in dealing with weapons and ammunition (e.g. Bundeswehr, Jäger or comparable background)
• Good technical understanding of mechanical systems, measurement technology and material behavior under dynamic load
• First experience in experimental operation, testing technology or measuring technology of advantage
• Basic knowledge of technical documentation
• High safety awareness, especially in the handling of safety-relevant technology
• Good knowledge of German, knowledge of English

The aim of the body is to provide qualified implementation and technical assistance for fire tests to assess the protective effect of materials, components and vehicles. The focus is on questions on the performance of protection systems under realistic loading conditions, identification of vulnerabilities and a well-founded evaluation of bullet results. The results obtained form the basis for reliable statements to our customers and provide important impulses for the further development of products. The use of suitable measurement methods as well as the consistent application of recognised test standards ensures a high level of accuracy and comparability of the results.
