As a designing and motivating manager for the management of the IT team “Virtualized Network Architectures and Databases” (Referat T 14). As the leadership of the dedicated and highly qualified employees, you will give impulses to strategic and organisational further development through active control of change and transformation processes, including a clear target for the overall task. You are actively working on the security and digital sovereignty of national communication infrastructures by using zero-trust principles and modern technologies such as Software-Defined Networking, Artificial Intelligence and Automation to advance. Together with your team, you will design security guidelines, standards and building blocks for the database and infrastructure environment, in particular for virtualized network architectures and database systems. You can assume that: As an experienced IT leadership with strong communication strength, you take over the strategic and personal leadership of the team “Virtualized Network Architectures and Databases” at the Federal Office for Security in Information Technology (BSI). Together with your ten-member team, you will develop solutions at the interface of network security, virtualization and database technologies – with direct relevance for Germany's digital sovereignty. In the T 14 Unit, you will operate a state-of-the-art laboratory environment specifically designed for deep security analyses of virtualized network architectures and database-based systems. The analysis of complex attack scenarios, the development of robust security architectures and Proofs of Concept are your everyday life as well as the intensive professional exchange with other teams in the BSI and external partners from research, administration and industry. Your goal: to assess current threats technically well-founded, develop effective security policies and recommendations and actively promote their implementation. The results of your work flow directly into central digitization projects of the federal government – for example when building highly available, trusted communications networks for the federal administration. THE KLEINGEDRUCKTE (but not less important points of your portfolio): You represent your team and the topic of “Virtualized Network Architectures and Databases” both internally and externally, and are a key player for stakeholders from administration, research and business. You actively promote cooperation with research institutions, companies and specialist communities, establish new contacts and build existing networks in a targeted manner – always looking at current developments in the areas of secure networks and databases. You initiate and control development, implementation and pilot projects around virtualized network architectures and safety-critical database systems – from idea to concept to successful implementation. You are responsible for the work in the laboratory: develop realistic test scenarios and analyze safety-relevant components – thereby creating the basis for sustainable safety standards.

A scientific degree (uni-diplom/master) in a scientific or technical field. Alternatively, you have a different academic degree in connection with a professional experience of at least five years in the field of the design of network architectures and/or in the field of the operational operation of IT infrastructures. You understand themselves as a leader who has fun to inspire and promote a team with a modern leadership culture. You demonstrate that You have at least two years of experience in a leading or controlling role in the field of IT infrastructure or information security – and have built up sound technical and strategic know-how. Project management is not a new country for you: You know the common methods, keep an overview in complex projects and successfully bring projects to the target. You have expertise in network technologies – in particular in the context of virtualized network architectures (e.g. SDN, NFV) – and know what to do with securing such systems. Ideally, you will also have experience with database systems and their security mechanisms – or are willing to work on them quickly. You have very good German and good English language skills (at least cf. B2 of the GER) in word and writing and have practical experience in conducting discussions and negotiations, also in English. You bring the willingness to participate in further training and to take over occasional, possibly also multi-day, scheduled service trips – taking into account the compatibility of family and profession.
