The Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Fine Engineering IOF in Jena operates application-oriented research in optical system technology on the direct behalf of the industry and within the framework of publicly funded joint projects. Fraunhofer IOF's range of services includes system solutions, starting with new design concepts, the development of technologies, production and measurement methods, and the construction of prototypes and pilot series for applications in the wavelength range from millimeters to nanometers. The technical department is responsible for ensuring and maintaining ongoing research. To implement the projects, Fraunhofer IOF operates several clean rooms and laboratories with high technical complexity.
