We make port: With great passion, we keep running the infrastructure of the Port of Hamburg around the clock. We are more than 1,900 HPA colleagues who drive forward advanced ideas to develop Hamburg's heart and make the port a bit more sustainable every day. You are in the middle of your studies: From the first day on you can participate in exciting projects for the conservation and development of the port and get comprehensive insights into the entire port of Hamburg and the associated infrastructure. Your working day is a varied mix of office and field service. In the team of hydrography, we define the water depths and other parameters of the ground of water in the area of the Port of Hamburg with peil and measuring vessels. In addition, we record three-dimensional shore structures, perform the port inventory data and the target depth model and evaluate different spatial measurement data. These are available to users as depth information, among other things, together with electronic sea charts and port inventory data, e.g. in the digital web interface Hydro Portal. This provides an essential basis for fast and safe shipping as well as efficient water retention.

You have a completed general university maturity or Professional training and your grades in the MINT subjects are good. Of course, you will also be interested in mathematical science topics. Ideally, you have already successfully completed a training in surveying technology / geomatics. You will have first experience in surveying or in the craft/technical field. You have good English skills in word and writing. Commitment, team capacity and solution-oriented action are yours.

The dual study starts for the winter semester on 01.09.2026 and lasts a total of 3.5 years. You will experience your practical phase in the Port of Hamburg and in the Hydrography. You can learn the theoretical content at HafenCity University Hamburg.
