Finance Director – Economist (m/f/d)

The / The Financial Director (Ökonom) is a member of the team of departmental management. In this role, it contributes to the overall strategy of the diocesan administration and works closely with the bishop, the Permanent Representative, the consecration bishops, the other departments and the bodies of the diocesan. The position requires both technical/commercial authority and team-oriented cooperation. Strategic decisions take place in the management circle; At the same time, the financial director is independent of his/her competence. The core tasks of the financial director – economist are focused on strategic financial management, budgetary and accounting, asset and participation management, real estate and construction, and governance and compliance. The financial director is responsible for several departments with executive staff. A modern, value-assurance leadership style is expected, combining clear targeting, decision-making, transparency, delegation capacity and responsibility. The position requires analytical depth, clarity, argumentation strength, capacity to convert, target security and liability – integrity and sovereignty encompass the personality profile.

It is expected that a completed university course will be completed in business or economics, economic law or in a comparable course of study. Additional qualifications such as doctoral studies, additional studies in non-profit management, training in the ecclesiastical administration service or further education in the field of governance or compliance are welcome. The membership of the Catholic Church is a prerequisite for church law. The candidate should also identify with Christian values and be familiar with ecclesiastical structures and ways of deci­sion and with the ecclesiastical self-image. The candidate needs to streamline complex issues, develop scenarios and evaluate strategic options. The position requires strong expertise in: budgetary and accounting, accounting, controlling, financial planning, asset management, tax law (Church-specific), public law and non-profit-making. The person must be willing to prepare and clearly represent uncomfortable decisions. The ability to think beyond operational issues is expected. It actively shapes the future viability of the diocese and is to be regarded as the financial conscience – a key position with strong responsibility and a foundation for the sense of society. .
