PhD student in the field of solid-state batteries (m/f/d)
Aalen University is one of the most researchable universities for applied sciences in Germany. The Aalen University of Applied Sciences has been a reliable partner for over 60 years – for students, employees and teachers, for municipalities, the economy and more than 130 cooperation partners worldwide. We attach great importance to a modern and future-oriented teaching, because the connection of theory and practice is decisive for us. The institute is located at the Institute for Materials Research (IMFAA) of the Aalen University of Applied Sciences and is part of a collaborative research project with technology-leading partners from industry and science. The aim of the project is to improve the performance and service life of solid batteries. For this purpose, novel methods for microstructuring the composite cathodes and the cathode separator boundary surface are to be developed. The Aalen University of Applied Sciences is looking for the Institute for Materials Research (IMFAA) at the next possible time: PhD student:in the field of solid-state batteries (w/m/d) - 26-04-02

You explore novel approaches for solid composite cathodes with a tailor-made microstructure, for example with graduated structure or microstructured surface. You develop new process routes for electrode production in the laboratory scale. You characterize the material properties and the microstructure of the electrodes, for example by means of SEM, FIB-SEM, EDX, XRD or Raman spectroscopy. You analyze in detail the electrochemical properties, for example by means of EIS, cell performance and studies on aging behavior. You develop empirical models to describe the relationships between process, structure and properties. In order to carry out your research, modernly equipped laboratories and office areas are available in our research buildings.
You have a very good master's and/or doctoral degree in the field of chemistry, materials sciences/materials engineering, engineering, physics or a similar field of expertise. You have experience with battery materials and cell technology, in particular in the field of solid-state batteries. You have experimental knowledge in the fields of powder, slurry and coating processes and experience in material characterization techniques (for example SEM, EDX, XRD) and in the electrochemical characterization of battery materials. You have very good IT skills; Experience in Python, Matlab or Origin is advantageous. You have German knowledge at the native language level (at least B2, preferably C1) and are able to guide or write project meetings and project reports in German.
