Type of employment: Limited Working time: Full time Place of work: Renningen The aim of the doctorate is to build and optimize a cognitive sensor network for a mechanical processing process in semiconductor production. This network consists of different sensor types, positions and types that meet the requirements of a real production environment. As part of the sensor fusion, the network is intended to detect interfering variables such as signal drift. Similar to biological systems, a central consciousness (“sensory cortex”) of the sensors is to be developed by a learning system. This approach allows the use of important functionalities in the area of reliability (self-healing or Repair, automatic calibration or Learning and optimization) of the network that goes far beyond a single sensor viewing. As part of your doctorate, you conduct scientific research on the system-theoretical approaches to modeling cognitive systems and their uncertainties (state of technology and research). You develop system properties, theoretical solution approaches and models of sensor networks, including methodological evidence, possibly by simulative validation. The development and programming of cognitive algorithms for evaluating and ensuring reliability in the sensor network is also part of your task, as well as the construction and programming of a demonstrator. You take the experimental validation and optimization in the test field and in the near-standard environment. Your results will be published in the form of journal and conference contributions.

Education: very good university degree (Diplom/M.Sc.) in the field of mechanical engineering, (Technical) computer science, (Technical) mathematics, technical cybernetics, physics or comparable Experiences and know-how: sound knowledge in the fields of signal processing, system theory, statistics, modelling and simulation; Experience in developing and creating complex object-oriented software (e.g. C++, Python, .NET) Personality and working methods: You can easily grasp complex facts quickly, you have excellent skills in scientific research and work in an interdisciplinary environment Enthusiasm: interest and joy in analytical-theoretical and experimental research activities; Curiosity of technical solutions Languages: very good German and good English knowledge in word and writing
