Material testers are qualified to independently examine materials and workpieces and to change their properties by technological processes. Your knowledge of the individual production and processing steps allows you to analyze the causes of identified errors. When performing test procedures, displaying results and quality assurance issues, you can orient yourself to prescribed standards or other rules.

Material testers with a focus on metal technology are responsible for the preparation, implementation and evaluation of physical-technical studies and test series. You will examine predetermined materials, especially metallic semi-finished products, workpieces and materials, on properties and defects or check the consistent quality of products. As a rule, material testers in metal technology with so-called destructive and non-destructive testing methods determine different material properties, such as hardness, strength or deformability. You prepare materials and investigate them microscopically. You carry out tests in laboratories and, if necessary, in process engineering departments.

The training lasts 3.5 years. Your vocational school is the Kerschensteiner School in Stuttgart.
