Planning engineer in district heating system analysis

Our district heating network is the largest Western Europe with a length of more than 2,000 kilometres. We supply about one third of the Berlin households with heat. With the know-how of our 2,300 employees, we cover the entire value chain of district heating – from production to grid operation and expansion to distribution. At high pressure, we work at the coal exit until 2030 and at climate-neutral production from 2045. In this way, we support the Land of Berlin significantly when reaching its climate targets. On the way to this we want to realize a higher proportion of renewable energies and waste heat. To do this, we need to redesign many of our sites and facilities. For this challenge and the associated tasks, we need people who are fully committed to our common goal of a local heat transition – people like you. For the BEW Berliner Energie und Wärme GmbH, we are looking for you as a planning engineer:in district heating system analysis at the Berlin site in an indefinite position. With us, you analyze, model and evaluate complex technical relationships in the district heating network and thus support both ongoing operation and strategic expansion. You work on central questions of municipal heat planning and accompany the transformation towards a sustainable, sustainable energy system.

You analyze, model and simulate technical relationships in the district heating system and drive the technical development of the network on this basis. You evaluate connection possibilities, dimensions and implementation variants of district heating connections and define technical requirements for expansion projects. You carry out hydraulic analyses for system planning issues and assess their impact on the entire district heating system. You take over the collection, evaluation, documentation and visualization of technical data and analysis results. You accompany the transformation of the district heating system, in particular through the integration of renewable energies, external feeders and new generation technologies. You analyze interactions between new generation concepts and existing systems and develop proposals for their hydraulic integration. You use and link various technical systems and data sources to derive resilient planning bases into system relationships. You participate in the development of boundary conditions and technical foundations for municipal heat planning as well as in the strategic interconnection of maintenance and development planning.

You have a completed university or university degree course, ideally in the field of engineering, energy technology or a comparable subject. You have a well-founded knowledge of heat management and especially of district heating. You bring practical experience in the functioning and simulation and in the thermo-hydraulic systems. You have very good knowledge in data analysis and processing as well as in programming, for example with Python. You work analytical, structured and independent and draw your attention through your own initiative and sense of responsibility. You can communicate clearly and work in the team.
