The GSI Helmholtz Centre for Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerator systems for science. The new FAIR plant (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) is currently being built in international cooperation, one of the largest research projects worldwide. GSI and FAIR offer the opportunity to collaborate in this international environment with a team of employees working daily to conduct science at world level. The target laboratory is one of the scientific and technical infrastructure departments of GSI and FAIR and a world leader in the production of thin layers as tailor-made targets and stripper films for accelerator-based research and accelerator applications. Preparation of free-supporting thin layers of carbon, highly pure metals and isotopically enriched and also weakly radioactive materials with PVD techniques Production of thick layers or solid materials by cold rolling or Lapping and polishing Chemical Conversion of Materials Physical analysis Careful documentation of processes and results with Word, Excel and PowerPoint Create and update safety data sheets and operating instructions for the target laboratory.

Completed training as a technicianin or as an engineerin (Bachelor or Master) in a metalworking industry, in physical engineering, chemical engineering, laboratory engineering, process engineering or a related field Experience in working in a chemical or physical laboratory Knowledge from the fields of chemistry, physics, process engineering, vacuum technology, vapor deposition technology and Lapping and polishing are desired Experiences in dealing with radioactive materials and working in a radioactive laboratory are advantageous Embossed team skills and communicative strength in handling internal contractors Good knowledge of German is necessary, knowledge of English is advantageous. Work shows little routine and requires craftsmanship, creativity and systematic independent work. Accuracy, toughness and patience are desirable. Continuous learning is a prerequisite for this job.
