The Department of Regional Development, Energy and Climate Protection has set itself the goal of launching and implementing sustainable development processes based on the region's own possibilities and strengths. It advises and accompanies the circular cities, municipalities and offices in their construction planning procedures, as well as other local planning and urban planning concepts and plans and coordinates the local and regional settlement and industrial development planning. Also located in the department are tasks in the field of the energy and mobility transition, the support of the Geographic Information System (GIS), and public passenger transport (ÖPNV).
