Chief Operations Officer (COO) The World Games Karlsruhe 2029 The city of Karlsruhe is looking for you as part of the management of “The World Games 2029 GmbH (TWG 2029 GmbH)” with the aim of successfully carrying out The World Games 2029, the international sporting event of non-Olympic disciplines. As a member of a three-member management, you will be responsible for operations (services, Sport & Venues). In partnership and collaborative cooperation with the two managing directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you create an effective, motivating and powerful organizational culture within the local organization committee (LOC) and inspire urban society, sports community and civil society actors with a smooth implementation of the event The World Games Karlsruhe 2029.

They are part of the management, which is responsible for the overall responsibility for the economic, organizational and strategic management of the local organization committee (LOC) organised as a GmbH. They act with a collective focus on success in the management team, create a collegial and jointly effective leadership culture of the management level and design cooperative and constructively efficient processes, decision-making paths and structures of the LOC. You will lead the direct management area in the Services, Sport & Venues, incl. Security & Technology (including personnel & budget responsibility). They develop and build a sustainable, economically successful and socially and culturally inclusive organization. They create trusted, stable and sustainable working relationships between the IWGA and the stakeholders and beneficiaries of the Karlsruher Politik und Stadtgesellschaft. They commission and monitor a variety of external service providers.

They have a scientific university degree, such as the business or economics, the sports economy, the event or sports management, or a comparable qualification. They have knowledge of German and English at least in GER level C1, other foreign language skills are desirable. They are a competent ambassador* of sport and stand with passionate commitment and authentic understanding of the values of the TWG. They have experience in planning and performing major events, preferably sports events. Ideally, you have experience in demanding non-profit functions, preferably in the sports field. They are an experienced executive who, in a long-standing position, combines sovereign management routines with broad management experience and experience in strategic corporate management. They have a high sensitivity to the needs of athletes and volunteers: they create trusted relationships and motivate civil society engagement. They live a success-oriented leadership culture, promote and demand employees with demanding goals and are successful in the long and short distances. They inspire people for ideas, and thanks to their excellent oral and written communicative skills, you will be able to convey the visions and values of the TWG in a targeted and decent manner.
