Research Assistant - Simulation of Rare and Transient Events in Dilute Gases (m/f/d)

Branch: Teaching and training Branch: Teaching and training

At the Chair of Applied and Computer-Supported Mathematics (ACoM), we conduct mathematical research at the interface between engineering, natural and life sciences. We strive to promote and encourage interdisciplinary activities that combine basic research and applied research. In our view, mathematical results form the fundamental source of the solution of modern technological problems in applied disciplines. We are part of the Department of Mathematics at RWTH Aachen and are closely connected to the groups of Numerical Analysis at IGPM and for uncertainty quantification at UQ. Some of our doctoral students and postdoctoral students are affiliated to the Research Training Group “Energy, Entropy and Dissipative Dynamics”, the International Graduate College “Modern inverse Problems”, the SNuBIC Research Unit, the Collaborative Research Area “Sparsity and Singular Structures” and the School for Simulation and Data Sciences. The work will be carried out within the framework of the project “Simulation of Rare and Transient Events in Diluted Gases” funded by the DFG. The research focus is on the development of new algorithms as part of the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo method (DSMC) to improve the simulations mentioned. These algorithms include particle particle particle and particle surface interactions, particle fusion and sensitivity analysis methods for stochastic particle-based simulations. The practical applications of the research topic include engineering problems in the fields of microelectromechanical systems, aerospace technology and semiconductor production. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. There is a wide range of training and the possibility of obtaining a job ticket for employees and civil servants. .
