Volume: Full time Time limit: unlimited Remuneration: TV-L EC 14 Start: 01.07.2026 With about 140 employees, kiz is the second largest central institution of the University of Ulm and provides services in the areas of library, information technology and media for research, teaching, study and administration. The Infrastructure department is responsible for the entire network infrastructure, the provision of IT basic equipment, a high-performance computing cluster, and for other system-related services that a modern IT center provides.

Strategic and operational leadership of the team, including target development, task management, personnel planning and development Ensuring the stable, secure and efficient operation of the university network (Access, Core, Data Center, WLAN) as well as the telecommunications network and the PIM systems Planning, design and implementation of network projects and national initiatives, including budget responsibility, market analyses and EU-wide tenders Evaluation of new technologies, definition of security targets and operation of university-wide firewalls Coordination of network-related services (e.g. DNS, DHCP, RADIUS, Monitoring) and selection of appropriate tools for a user-friendly network infrastructure Advice and 2nd level support for research, teaching and administration as well as training and knowledge transfer within the University Analysis of threats and derivation of appropriate security measures to ensure high-availability network operation

Complete scientific studies at a university (Diplom, Master) or university (Master) in the field of computer science as well as several years of relevant professional experience Funded and wide-ranging IT expertise to derive strategic and operational objectives for the network operation of the University Deep knowledge in the field of network architectures, protocols and technologies (e.g. virtualization, switching, routing, OSI stack) Experience with network automation, monitoring and modern deployment strategies (gitOps, DevOps) Very good programming knowledge in script and programming languages such as Python, Perl, Go or C, including version management and parallelization Secure handling of Linux/Unix systems, virtualization solutions and tools for troubleshooting and performance analysis Experience in IT project management, in particular in planning, control, documentation and communication of complex infrastructure projects Understanding the nationwide IT strategies (central resource pooling vs. thematic specialization) and ability to transfer them to the university context Leadership, team skills, independent working and communication and conflictability Very good German knowledge (C2)
