The Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research is a research facility supported by the Federal Republic of Germany, the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and the Länder of Brandenburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony with around 1,400 employees. In a broad multidisciplinary approach, we conduct polar and marine research and, in conjunction with numerous university and non-university research institutions, make an important contribution to global environmental, earth system and paleoclimate research. Technical assistant:in coastal research (w/d/m/x) Background We are looking for support for our team in the section “Ecology of Coasts”. Our research work covers the complex interface between land and sea. We specialize in the ecosystems of the Wadden Sea and the North Sea and investigate issues related to stressors as well as natural and human changes. Our work includes applications in the field as well as the design and execution of experiments as well as the analysis of samples in the laboratory.

Organisation of the AWISOM mesocosm plant Organisation and execution of sampling within the LTER series Sylt Roads Implementation of C:N analyses as part of LTER and other research projects Responsibility for generally used measuring instruments such as freeze dryers, muffle ovens and mobile measuring instruments (light, pH, oxygen, flow) Microscopic laboratory work within the LTER series

Completed vocational training as a biological-technical assistance or comparable training Multi-year professional experience Experience in the planning and implementation of large experiments Very good technical understanding, or good knowledge in aquaculture technology/plant engineering, maintenance or Water cycle systems Expert knowledge of the organisation and implementation of vessel-based sampling and field work Expertise in C:N-Analytics Very good German knowledge (according to CEFR level C1) Good knowledge of English (according to CEFR level B1+B2) Required skills, knowledge and experience Class B driving licence Basic knowledge of HPLC and nutrient analysis Knowledge of various microscopy techniques and the fixation of organisms
