At the Institute for Physics of the Mathematic-Natural-Technical Faculty of the University of Augsburg are at the Chair of Experimental Physics I (Prof. Dr. Jan Lipfert) as part of the Marie Skłodowska Cure Actions EU-Doktorandenprogramms MeChaNiSM at the next possible time two positions as

doctoral student (m/w/d)

in the Current of regular working hours (full-time) in a to to three years** Compensation is carried out within the framework of the flat-rate packages specified in the Grant Agreement by an EU researcher service contract.

The PhD program MeChaNiSM (“Mechanical Characterization of Nucleic acids using Single Molecule techniques”) is part of the Marie Skłodowska Cure measures (MSCA). Nucleic acids are central to the storage, transmission and regulation of genetic information and play important roles in biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as CRISPR/Cas and mRNA vaccines. Individual molecules have significantly improved our understanding of these fascinating molecules and their interactions with therapeutic active ingredients. In order to meet new medical challenges and strengthen Europe's competitiveness, the MeChaNiSM project aims to train a new generation of scientists in single molecule biophysics with a focus on nucleic acids.

Your profile:

· completed university degree (Master degree) in physics, chemistry, biochemistry, biology or a related discipline, preferably with experience in biophysics.

Research interest in the field of experimental and theoretical biophysics with particular interest in the subjects of single molecule methods, fluorescence, and structure, mechanics, modifications and function of DNA and RNA.

· Well-structured and organised working style, self-initiative and enthusiasm for research

· Very good **

· Candidates may have any nationality, but if the job is started, they must be mobile across borders** (i.e. from one country to another). In particular, they may not have stayed in Germany for more than 12 months in the last three years before their appointment at the time of the selection by the University of Augsburg or have exercised their main activity (work, studies, etc.). Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account.
