Hose guns are often an attractive alternative to weir systems with classic steel closures: due to the flexible weir closures (membrane made of fabric-reinforced elastomer), You are more cost-effective, faster to build and less maintenance in operation. In the years 2006 to 2013, five plants with storage heights of up to 2.4 m were realized on German federal water roads. For the coming years, WSV plans to replace conventional closure systems with water-filled hose guns with nine replacement new constructions on federal waterways. Concrete projects are already at the Neckar, Main and at the Lahn in planning. The closure heights provided are between about 4.0 m and 4.6 m. These structures go far beyond previous dimensions, which not only brings with them technical challenges, but also opens up an innovative working field with a high design space. In order to reduce the risks arising from this alternative type of closure as well as from the significantly larger dimensions of the planned systems, the BAW is currently developing a multi-part technical control system and a quality assurance concept for the planning, execution and operation of hose gun systems. In parallel, we are driving forward the material development of the tube membranes in order to improve their sustainability and durability while minimizing the release of potentially harmful substances. Your duties You plan and conduct tests on tube membranes in the building material laboratory. You advise manufacturers to develop membranes in a targeted manner, in particular with regard to environmental compatibility. You actively contribute your expertise to the consulting of the WSV – from planning to tendering to construction. You contribute to the creation and further development of technical regulations for the planning, execution and maintenance of hose gun systems.
