Computer Scientist – Network & IT Infrastructure (m/f/d)

The ''I+K Services'' team at the Fraunhofer Institute for Labour and Organisation IAO in Stuttgart is responsible for the operation and further development of the entire IT infrastructure of the Institute. These include the network and server landscape as well as central IT services for our scientific teams. Our goal is to provide a powerful, secure and sustainable IT environment that enables innovative research while meeting the highest standards of stability, security and efficiency. We continuously develop our infrastructure and integrate modern technologies into our existing systems. In order to strengthen our team, we are looking for a dedicated personality as a computer scientist with a focus on network operation and IT infrastructure.

In your role, you are responsible for the stable, secure and efficient operation and the strategic development of the Institute's network infrastructure, in particular in the areas of routing, switching, network access control (NAC) and network management based on Cisco. You operate network-related services such as DNS, DHCP and monitoring and ensure their reliable availability. In addition, you continue to operate and develop the IT security infrastructure, especially in the environment of firewalls (Palo Alto) and public key infrastructure (PKI). Engagedly support the administration and further development of our virtualization platforms (e.g. VMware and Proxmox) as well as the operation of the Windows domain structure and master basic tasks in client management. You provide optimal results in close exchange with internal IT teams.

completed academic studies (Master/Diplom or comparable) in computer science or an informatics-related field; in the case of related subjects as complementary as possible professional experience. Very good knowledge of network technologies, especially routing, switching and network management (ideally Cisco). Experience with network-related services such as DNS, DHCP and monitoring, also in virtualization technologies (e.g. VMware or Proxmox). Good knowledge of IT security, especially in dealing with firewalls (e.g. Palo Alto) and PKI structures, as well as current IT security standards and regulatory requirements (e.g. NIS-2). Good know-how in scripting and programming for the automation of infrastructure and operating processes. Basic knowledge about the operation of Windows domains as well as client management. Team player qualities, the ability to work structured and focused even in challenging situations, as well as the willingness to work flexible working hours within the IT business. Very good German and English (min. C1-Level) in word and writing.
