Our scientists develop novel methods and strategies to combat infectious diseases faster and more effectively. Our common goal are new approaches to prevention, diagnosis and therapy of infectious diseases. In the center of our research: bacterial and viral pathogens, their interplay with the immune system of humans and new active ingredients and vaccines. The digital transformation has become a central challenge both in the science of the HZI and in the administration. The rapid technological development revolutionizes the way in which life science research is being conducted and how we organize a research centre administratively. The newly founded Digital Office provides the framework for this. We develop, implement and advise on innovations and processes of digitalization. Our goal is to enable all employees to experience the great opportunities and opportunities of digitalization for new insights and better work results. For this task we are looking for innovative minds with pleasure in learning and design. As a central point of contact for digital competence building, you network needs from the fields of research data management, scientific computing and publishing processes to data science, and translate them into an effective qualification offer. At the same time, you bring the technology perspective: you consistently think of software engineering and software architecture and ensure that personal development and purchased tools are robust, integrable and future-oriented. In short, You combine people, themes and technology – and make digitalization appreciably effective at HZI.

50 % Education You design and operate an HZI-wide curriculum for digital skills and coordinate contributions / offers in the house (including quality assurance and impact measurement). You make training practically usable: reusable materials, standards, community formats and target group-oriented learning paths – so that research and services can benefit measurably. You integrate AI Literacy / Responsible Use in learning paths and support the organization to reflect and effectively use AI. 50% Software Enablement – Individual Developments & Tools You strengthen HZI's research software with a focus on software quality, reproducibility and sustainable provision – including transition from prototypes to stable artifacts (Doku, Releases, Standards). You control the portfolio of research-assisting tools / information systems (purchase software): bundle requirements, coordinate introductions / further development and translate integration requirements (interfaces, roles / identities, data classification) into projects. You think AI consistently with – in software architecture, product decisions and operating / governance requirements (e.g. data protection, security, quality). In addition to this very demanding task field, there is the possibility of deputy management of the Digital Office and the representation of the CDO.

Completed academic studies (master/equivalent) in a suitable field (e.g. computer science, data science, bioinformatics, engineering/natural sciences). Experience in the conception / coordination of qualification or enablement measures (Curriculum, Course Design, Evaluation). Knowledge of research software engineering (software quality, testing, versioning, reproducibility) and basic programming skills (e.g. Python / Java). Experience in requirement and portfolio management for digital tools/information systems (introduction, operating interfaces). Basic knowledge of information security / privacy (Security / Privacy by Design) and very good knowledge of German and English. You work structured, communicate clearly and enjoy pragmatically “in running” and are team-ready. Very good communication skills in German and English, written as oral The willingness to acquire missing knowledge.
