Number: MER0003UWU On 29 January 1886, Carl Benz notified his vehicle with gas engine operation to the patent. Since then, with more than 100,000 patent applications, we have developed the automobile and brought forward pioneering innovations. In order to keep the nose of product development in international competition, intellectual property (IP) is of invaluable value. We take care of the intellectual property of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, report patent inventions, manage our patent portfolio, enforce our intellectual property rights against third parties and defend our developments against attacks from third parties. As part of your internship, you will learn the complete legal process from the idea to the filing of national and international patent applications and the process of patenting. You also support the patent professionals or Patent lawyers for further tasks on the subject of intellectual property rights. For this we offer you exciting and versatile topics concerning hybrid and electric drives, battery, classic internal combustion engines (Otto/Diesel/H2), safety and transmission. Your tasks include: Knowing the tasks and procedures of a patent department of a large group

Research with focus on patent law issues

Processing of invention messages and communication with the participating inventors

Participation in the creation of registration documents and notifications

Cooperation with patent professionals and Patent attorneys

Analysis of the proprietary rights portfolio of Mercedes-Benz Group AG in the field of drivetrain technology with regard to our competitors and current technological developments

Support of the Group in aligning its future strategy for this area

The activity can begin from March 2026.

Degree course in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, mechatronics, vehicle engineering, aerospace technology or patent law, patent engineering as well as all other or comparable technical courses (please note that due to the pronounced practical relevance of the activity, purely legal training courses are not sufficient as a qualification)

Secure knowledge of German and English in word and writing

Safe handling of MS Office

First experiences in the field of protective rights and/or automotive technology are desirable
