In our Data Intelligence team, we ensure that our publishers – Droemer Knaur, Kiepenheuer & Witsch, Rowohlt, S. Fischer and Argon – become real insights from data. As a Data Engineer (m/w/d), you are responsible for the collection of book-relevant online store data, with you, in addition to accessing APIs, primarily addressing our own-developed scraping framework, continuously modernizing and developing technology. You design and build scalable data pipelines and ETL processes that transfer data from different source systems (VMI, book trading, internal publishing systems) to our Data Warehouse. You unveil and care data models (dimensional & relational) that serve as a reliable basis for analytics and reporting. You develop and promote dashboards and self-service BI solutions for our publishing brands. You help us develop, adapt and support data-centered web applications and dashboards. Our – and in the future also your – applications run containerized via Docker and Kubernetes in Linux environments as well as in the Azure and Google Cloud. Prototyping, designing and developing innovative data tools as well as modern AI applications are extremely important to us - and here we are fully relying on your expertise. You are broadly positioned as an engineer (m/w/d) and at the same time brings deep expertise in at least one of these areas: Data Engineering: Experience with data pipelines, dbt, ELT/ETL, data modeling and modern data stack technologies Backend / Application: Scalable, cloud-native systems in Python or Java, API design, containerized deployments Analytics / BI: Development of dashboards and self-service solutions, SQL expertise, semantic data models You have a close degree in IT or a thematically similar training. You have profound knowledge in Java; Experience with Groovy and/or the Spring Boot Framework is a big plus. You are safe to use web technologies such as HTML and JavaScript. Ideally, you already have experience in the area of browser automation through Playwright or Selenium. Python is very welcome. You bring very good SQL and database knowledge, ideally with ORACLE and Google BigQuery. You feel at home in the Linux environment. Build and deploy processes are familiar to you and you have already gained practical experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes). You have practical experience with the use of AI tools in the development (e.g. LLM-based data extraction, code assistants) and brings a basic understanding of the pragmatic use of AI in data processes. You communicate in German (C1-Niveau) and get absolutely safe in English.
