The Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) is a globally outstanding centre for fusion research. With around 1100 dedicated employees in Garching near Munich and Greifswald, we are dedicated to researching the foundations for fusion power plants. These power plants generate energy without climate-damaging emissions, are safe, sustainable and almost inexhaustible – similar to the sun. Fusion power plants have the potential to play an important role in the energy supply of future generations. At the IPP site in Greifswald we conduct research at the Großexperiment Wendelstein 7-X. The focus of the activity is on the software-based configuration of the experiment operation at the Wendelstein 7‐X fusion reactor. The software to be developed is based on the Java platform. The task area includes all levels of software development – from user interface to business logic to data consistency in a database system: Development, expansion, testing and maintenance of front and backend applications and related services Conception and implementation of APIs Participation in the preparation and revision of request analyses Active participation in DevOps processes for the automation of software production, testing and operation Close, team-wide cooperation with employees in the fields of software development, operation and physics that covers all phases of the software life cycle, including user training

A completed scientific study of computer science or a comparable subject Finded experiences and knowledge in the full stack development in the Java ecosystem and the associated frameworks throughout the Java software stack, including the application of frameworks for unit and integration tests Experience in handling relational and NoSQL databases Deep understanding of DevOps concepts and tools, continuous integration and build processes Experience with software quality assurance and production of English-language technical documentation This is an advantage Practical experience in collaborative software development in a scientific-technical environment A high level of self-employment and strong communicative skills, team spirit and joy in working with an international team of researchers
