The district museum is located in the centre of Grimma. It includes a historical exhibition building from the 16th. Right at the Mulde and a magazine building in the immediate vicinity. Both buildings were extensively renovated after floods in 2002 and 2013. The collection includes around 27,000 exhibits with collections from the early and early history to the modern era. The main focus of the collections is the historical development of the city of Grimma and the history of the St. Augustin Prince and State School as well as the 2nd Husarenregiment No. 19 in Grimma. We are looking for this location from 01.11.2025

The museum work is changing: As a lively history museum, the museum is looking for a new lead, which, with professional competence, strategic vision and cultural passion, shapes the future of the house. We are looking for you to develop the museum with a mix of proven and new ideas for the future. Bring your knowledge and creativity to redesign the extensive collections for visitors, set new priorities and let the building ensemble become a modern museal and tourist highlight in the city of Grimma.

Your duties • technical and administrative management of the museum with currently two employees • Development and implementation of a modern museum and exhibition conception with new focuses in coordination with the museum owner and the city of Grimma • Development and implementation of a new collection strategy • independent third-party acquisition • Organisation of events, cooperations and projects in the regional and national context • Care and development of existing network work, including the county, the city of Grimma and the “Friendskreis des Museums Grimma e.V.” • Representation of the museum and planning and implementation of the public work of the institution in cooperation with the institution

Your profile • a successfully completed university education in the field of Museology, Museum Education, History or Cultural Sciences or • a completed higher education culture management with a focus on museums; or • a completed higher education with comparable content and a multiannual professional experience in the museum area, preferably with operational, personnel and budget responsibility • good knowledge of German in word and writing • Responsibility and decision-making, planning and organisational strength, readiness to perform, critique and conflicting skills, contact and communication skills as well as cooperation and group capacity • Driving licence class B • the willingness to use private cars in the service by applying the Saxon Travel Cost Act
