Research assistant for the research area ''Joining Technology – Welding of Plastics'' (m/f/d)

Branch: Teaching and training Branch: Teaching and training

Plastic welding is a central technology for the realization of complex and functionally integrated plastic assemblies and thus an essential component of innovative solutions for current social and industrial challenges. Multipart system components can be integrated into dense, robust and process-proof component systems by means of material-locking joining, for example for encapsulated hollow structures, media guides, housing concepts, electronics protection or modular functional assemblies. The plastic welding comprises a wide range of industry-relevant methods with specific thicknesses in each case with respect to component geometry, material spectrum, clock time, seam quality and cleanliness requirements as well as process monitoring. The established methods include laser beam welding and ultrasonic welding. Together, these approaches are the high potential for automation and inline process control, whereby reproducible and quality-secured connections can also be realized in demanding applications. The joining technique and in particular the welding of plastics has been firmly anchored to the IKV for many years and is based on a successful research history. Current questions of the working group address the further development of quality assurance and process monitoring, the expansion of the material and component bandwidth, for example foamed thermoplastics or challenging material pairings, as well as the model-based, simulative description of welding processes for targeted process design and optimization. The RWTH is certified as a family-friendly university. RWTH offers a variety of health, counselling and prevention services (e.g. university sports) as part of a university health management. There is a wide range of training and the possibility of obtaining a job ticket for employees and civil servants. .
