The Department of General and Visceral Surgery consists of three clinics: The Clinic for Gastrointestinal and Colonial Surgery under the direction of Dr. Michael Lipp and the Clinic for Liver, Gallenwegs and Pancreas Surgery under the direction of Prof. Dr. Karl Oldhafer, both at the Barmbek site. The third clinic is headed by Prof. Dr. Carolin Tonus and is located at the St. Georg site. The focus is on cooprectology and a hernia center, "high end" with elaborate abdominal ceiling reconstructions. As a hospital for maximum care with SAV approval, we treat supraregionally complex abdominal trauma including penetrating shot and puncture injuries. The Asklepios Clinics Barmbek and St. Georg are an academic part of the Semmelweis University in Budapest and at the same time academic teaching hospitals at the University of Hamburg.
