Around 300 employees are involved in ten departments. The HU is a state company according to Section 106 LHO assigned to the Authority for the Environment, Climate, Energy and Agriculture. Detecting, combating or preventing infections – this is the order of the hygiene and infectious medicine department. For hospitals, established doctors or public health facilities, we investigate samples using classical diagnostic methods and most modern molecular biological techniques.

You head the Medical Microbiology Department with 17 employees, are responsible for medical validation including detection of bacterial, virological, parasitological, mycological, serological and molecular biological analyses of human and hygienic samples; assist in the monitoring and consulting of medical facilities in Hamburg; are involved in training in the field of hygiene professions and are responsible for the infectiological advice of clinically active colleagues and (after appropriate incorporation) participate in the presence and call readiness services of the area of hygiene and infectious medicine.
