With a training as an application developer, you will learn the craftsmanship for a future as a professional software developer. On your exciting journey you work in various development teams for otto.de and other IT systems of the Otto Group. You will learn modern software development, current technologies and agile working methods to actively shape the future of digital trading and the largest German online shop.

In training as a specialist in application development, you enter the IT infrastructure of otto.de and learn the programming and the introduction and application of software and programs. Your bets will take place in your selected tech teams, where you can find out which focuses you want to inspire and deepen during your training. As an integral part of the teams, you work hands-on on current topics, can proactively introduce your ideas and make your contribution to the success of OTTO. Within the scope of our training concept, junior supervisors and the training team accompany you with your personal and professional development. Your start of training is September 1, 2026, the duration of the training is 3 years and the theoretical part takes place at the vocational school ITECH with bilingual teaching (German/English). The focus of application development means for you: Knowing a wide range of technologies and programming languages, such as Python, Java, Kotlin, various JavaScript and TypeScript Frameworks such as Vue or React to HTML, CSS and SQL. Experience the variety of programming – from frontend to backend or directly full stack. Immerse yourself in our IT world and engage in topics such as DevOps, cloud technologies (e.g. AWS and GCP), IT infrastructure (e.g. Terraform and Docker) or IT security.
