Number: MER0003USO In Group Research & Development (RD), we design the automotive generations of the future. We mean innovative products with the highest quality and efficient development processes. We are already working on vehicles that will secure the technology leadership of Mercedes-Benz in the future. Our department is responsible for research on future electric drives in the field of Mercedes-Benz AG. In the team ''Cell Material Analytics' at Untertürkheim, special analysis methods are developed to characterize the chemical/physical effects occurring in battery cells. One focus is on the transport parameters of electrolytes, among other things for parameterizing physical cell models. As part of this final work, a contribution will be made to the further development of experimental methods for characterizing lithium-ion batteries. The focus is on the precise determination of the electrochemical diffusion coefficient, a central parameter for understanding and modeling electrolytic transport processes. Various measurement methods are investigated which enable a quantitative analysis of this parameter. The aim is to develop, test and evaluate experimental approaches to the determination of the diffusion coefficient and with regard to their accuracy. In this case, systematic measurement series are carried out on laboratory cells in which materials and electrolyte formulations are varied in a targeted manner. The results are intended to contribute to the further development of physically sound cell models and provide new insights into the interaction between cell components and electrochemical transport processes. These challenges come to you: Construction and testing of electrochemical cells in laboratory scale
Conducting systematic measurement series with varying cell components
Analysis and interpretation of electrochemical data
Comparison and evaluation of different methods for parameterization
Documentation of measurement results and preparation of evaluation scripts
The final topics will be discussed with the university, you and us. The activity can start from January 2026.
Immatriculated in Bachelor or Master studies in Engineering or Natural Sciences First knowledge of lithium-ion cells or electrolytes for high-voltage batteries is desirable
Precise, careful and conscientious working style
Embossed team and communication skills as well as independent working
Secure knowledge of German in word and writing
Programming experience with Python
