In recent years, intelligent agents have taken a rapid development and have become an integral part of our everyday life – on the smartphone, in the smart home and in our vehicles. Progress in generic AI allows these systems to imitate more and more human abilities, such as logical thoughts and argumentation. However, these skills also focus on the central question: how can personalized behavior of AI-based assistants be designed in such a way that it remains transparent, comprehensible and at the same time controllable for users? As part of a master's thesis, potential solutions are to be identified, conceptually elaborated and implemented prototypically. A subsequent evaluation is intended to evaluate the theories of the work set up in advance and to analyse the results. As part of the Master's thesis, the following challenges come to you: Research on theories and concepts of personalization, transparency and control in human-agent interaction

Development of a conceptual approach to the design of transparent and controllable agent behavior

deriving concrete interaction and system concepts and prototypical implementation of designed concepts (software prototype)

Conception, preparation and implementation of a user study to evaluate the approach

Scientific documentation of methodology, results and implications

The Master's thesis is scheduled for 5-6 months from June 2026. The final topics will be discussed with the university, you and us.

enrolled in one of the following courses/areas: media informatics, human-computer interaction, UI/UX or a comparable study programme focusing on AI or user experience

Practical experience in the prototypical implementation of software systems (e.g. Python, JavaScript, connection of AI interfaces)

Very good knowledge and first experience in the development of software and UX/UI concepts

fun of independent work and challenges, recognizable by high motivation, commitment, team capacity and active communication, analytical thinking and strategic working

Secure knowledge of German and English in word and writing
