PhD Student (f/m/d) – Titanium Machining
At the Institute for Surface Technology (IOT) of RWTH Aachen we translate the possibilities of surface technology into practical solutions for a variety of technical challenges. Under the leadership of Prof. Bobzin, the IOT has acquired an internationally recognized position through the expertise in Physical Vapour Deposition (PVD), Thermal Spraying (TS), Soldering (LT) and Contract Welding (AS). In our research, we are working both on a basis-orientated basis and in close cooperation with industry. Through our offer of assistance promotion, we develop engineers who later take over a leadership or expert role in industry and want to develop innovative solutions for a sustainable future. The working day on the IOT includes the work in the team on technical questions. The practical training of our students and the industry-oriented and application-oriented research have a very high priority for us. The cohesion within the IOT team and also our former employees is highly appreciated, which we like to meet at events such as summer festival, excursion or colloquia. In everyday life, our employees enjoy the common lunch break, content discussions and regular, cozy relaxation with cold drinks on Friday afternoon. The cutting machining makes high demands on the tools used. The cutting of titanium, an essential material for aviation, is particularly demanding. An exciting solution approach is coatings which form reaction layers during machining and thus reduce wear. They have the opportunity to transfer and test a layer system from basic research into an industrial environment. To do this, you work closely with partners from the industry. JOBV1_EN
