Head of Institute MOIN (m/f/d)

For the Michael-Otto-Institut in the NABU in Bergenhusen (Schleswig-Holstein), we are looking for an institute management (m/w/d) from March 2026. Objective of the job: As a new head of the Michael-Otto-Institut in the NABU, a dynamic and innovative environment awaits you, which is passionate about nature conservation and biodiversity. Here the scientific foundations for comments and recommendations for action by NABU and other institutions are elaborated. Research for better conservation of nature in the agricultural landscape, nature conservation and regenerative energies and investigations into threatened bird species of the Wadden Sea is one of the tasks of the Institute as well as the International White Torchzensus. You guarantee the strategic and content development of the institute and conduct your teams successfully and innovatively.

Override leadership responsibility – You guide the Michael-Otto-Institut at NABU with four dedicated teams and promote the development of a total of 33 employees. Design the future of nature conservation – you develop strategies and goals that determine the course of the institute and create an environment in which nature conservation ideas grow. Be the voice of the institute – you build strong networks and present our research results at NABU, to the public, administration and science at national and international level – always in coordination with the management. Drive forward exciting projects – you coordinate research initiatives, develop new ideas and secure funding through successful launch of funding acquisitions. Keep the threads in your hands – you plan budgets, measure and evaluate successes and optimise processes so that the institute remains efficient and sustainable.

Funded expertise – You have completed a natural science university study, ideally with doctoral studies and brings leadership experience as well as strategic vision. Expertise in nature conservation – You know yourself in scientific work in the open country, including ornithology and/or deomology and understand the relationships between nature conservation and agriculture. Guided tour with heart and posture – You identify with the values of NABU, communicate transparently and value-estimatingly and work in the team. Strong networking – You are anchored in national and international networks and know the funding structures in biodiversity research and nature conservation. So it becomes perfect – you speak very well English and ideally have experience in the management of scientific institutions as well as a safe occurrence in negotiations.
