Become part of our agile and innovative unit and develop a methodology for automated grid production for our numerical flow models in an internal research and development project. Multidimensional, hydrodynamic and morphodynamic numerical models are an important tool for investigating measures to improve traffic and environmental conditions on federal waterways. Prerequisite for realistic simulations of flow velocities and water depths is a precise mapping of the flow geometry by means of suitable computing grids. Its creation is currently associated with considerable effort, since geometric information from different input data, such as digital terrain models, peiling data of the sole of the water and aerial images, must generally be combined manually. The aim of the research and development project is therefore to develop tools for extensive automation of this process. Machine learning methods are to be used in order to automatically detect terrain structures such as breakage edges and structures and to adapt the grid resolution adaptively.

You should bring this with you: Completed university degree (uni-diploma/master) in an above-mentioned or comparable field This distinguishes you: Geoinformation systems, geodata and grid generation: You are familiar with geodata and different height systems and have ideally already experience with geoinformation systems (QGIS). You are ready to work deeper into QGIS and develop plug-ins as needed. You will also be fascinated by the idea of automatically combining different geometry data and creating grids from it. Software development, algorithms and creativity: You are passionate about software development and are familiar with Git, Python and C++. You like to deal with algorithms and are able to develop new solutions. Ideally, you also have experience with software development under Linux and machine learning algorithms and methods. Scientific work in the team: You are able to understand complex relationships, and like to go to the ground (possibly as part of a doctorate or postdoc phase). Interdisciplinary cooperation in German and English is easy for you. Good oral and written expressiveness in English (CEFR B2 or equivalent) and good oral and written expressiveness in German (Goethe certificate B1 or equivalent) will bring you with you.

Influence: Together, something in interdisciplinary projects brings about national and international progress in digitalization, infrastructure, environment and mobility. Reliability: temporary employment relationship according to the regulations of the TVöD Bund in conjunction with § 2 paragraph 1 WissZeitVG Grouping for employees subject to confirmation of the tariff assessment in Group 13 of the TVED. Insolvency for persons in civil servants only in the context of a dismissal and subject to the confirmation of the assessment under the law of civil servants up to the grade A 13 of the Federal Staff Regulations (BBesO). 39 hours per week in full time (running time) 30 days of leave and work free on 24.12. and 31.12.

Work-Life-Balance: Individual working hours and models for independent work allow a high degree of flexibility and self-responsibility. We care about the compatibility of private and professional life. Professionality: A good working atmosphere begins with the working environment from modern equipment and digital infrastructure to open communication culture in a dedicated team. Network: National and international exchange with other scientists to expand your professional network. Perspectives: Possibility of doctoral studies in cooperation with a university Publication of scientific findings in scientific papers Participation in international conferences Interesting training and development opportunities within working hours.

Retention: Operational health management, diverse social benefits and a KITA with 25 seats on the premises Benefits: Grant to the Germany Ticket Job, cooperation with gyms, possibility of membership in the social work with offers for holidays, events and events, gastronomy and products Special notes: The service is generally suitable for occupation with parttime workers. Applications for women are expressly requested. We welcome the application of all genders. Disabled people are preferably set with the same professional suitability. Only a minimum of physical fitness is required. We welcome the application of people of all nationalities. The selection is made by a Commission. .
